UNCASVILLE, CONNECTICUT — It was all but certain that the Las Vegas Aces, after losing their season-opening game in New York in a battle of WNBA championship contenders, would be hell-bent in putting that bad taste out of their mouths in their next game. Sadly for the Connecticut Sun, they were the team standing right in front of the Aces and their collective ire, and it didn’t take too long for Las Vegas to show its class on Tuesday night.

A’ja Wilson led all scorers with 22 points while also grabbing 10 rebounds as the Aces scored the first nine points of the game and never looked back in an 87-62 in over the Connecticut Sun inside Mohegan Sun Arena. Jewell Loys chipped in with 20 points and five rebounds, making six of her nine three-point attempts.

Jackie Young scored six of those first nine points, with the final three coming when she made all three free throws after being fouled by Lindsay Allen on a three-point attempt to open that quick 9-0 lead. Connecticut played catch-up from there as it fell down 11 after the first quarter, though it did cut Las Vegas’ advantage to 28-21 midway through the second quarter. From there, the Aces went on a 24-8 run to end the half.

Las Vegas’ lead ballooned to as much as 35 points early in the fourth quarter.

Tina Charles had 20 points to lead the Sun, while first-round draft pick Saniya Rivers scored 11 points with four rebounds, two assists and two steals off the bench in her WNBA regular-season debut.
