UNCASVILLE, CONNECTICUT — Skylar Diggins made history, yet didn’t, during the All-Star Game in Indianapolis just over a week ago by recording her first triple-double of her professional career, as well as the first in All-Star Game history. Of course, given the exhibition status of the contest, Diggins still would have to wait for that career-first stat-stuffing line.
That wait ended up lasting all of nine days.
Diggins recorded her first triple-double with 11 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists as the Storm cruised to a 101-85 victory over the Connecticut Sun inside Mohegan Sun Arena. Nneka Ogwumike scored 26 points on 11-of-13 shooting as Seattle scored 30 points in both the second and third quarters, building their lead to as much as 32 in the contest.
By the end of the third quarter, the 34-year-old Diggins was already in the history books, as her two free throws with 44.2 seconds remaining put her in rarefied air. She had already amassed nine of her assists in the first half, with seven coming in the first of Seattle’s two 30-point quarters in the middle of the game.
Diggins is now the second Storm player in franchise history to record a triple-double, joining Temeka Johnson in 2014, and is now the fourth player in the league to record a triple-double this season, joining Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, and Alyssa Thomas.
While the Sun scored 25 points in the second quarter as the Storm hit for 30, Connecticut only managed 12 points in the third and fell behind as as it could not catch up with Seattle’s scoring. Bria Hartley led the Sun with 17 points.
