Snap Judgements: NYCFC vs. FC Dallas (09.17.16)

In their second season as a Major League Soccer franchise, and their second inside of Yankee Stadium, New York City Football Club has been a home run for most of the campaign.

In first place in the Eastern Conference for the majority of 2016, NYCFC has benefitted from the seamless assimilation of youth with the high-priced former stars of European top-flight leagues like David Villa and Frank Lampard. Tonight, in a matchup against Western Conference leader FC Dallas, one of those bright young stars, 23-year-old Khiry Shelton, came through for NYCFC in the clutch with the game-tying goal on a header in the 78th minute as the Big Apple club tied FC Dallas 2-2. Speaking of youth, both goals for NYCFC tonight were assisted by 19-year-old winger Jack Harrison. NYCFC (12-9-9, 45 points) is now one point behind Toronto FC for first place in the Eastern Conference, while the artists formerly known as the Dallas Burn (15-7-8, 52 points) extended its lead atop the Western Conference to five points.
