NEW YORK — In a moment of discretion late in the contest and with her team holding a healthy lead, New York Liberty center Jonquel Jones had the ball in her hands and knew that bleeding more clock was the prudent move. But it was her day, and Jones shot a 24-footer from the left wing with 11 seconds still showing on the shot clock.

Swish.

Jones scored 18 of her 27 points in the first half, and her three-pointer with just under three minutes left in the game was the coup de grâce as the Liberty, leading almost wire-to-wire, defeated the Las Vegas Aces 87-73 in Game 3 of the WNBA Finals to cut their deficit to two games to one in the best-of-five series. Breanna Stewart had a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds, and her three blocks also set the tone defensively as New York held the Aces to 33.3 percent shooting (23-for-69) from the field.

Sabrina Ionescu had 11 assists for New York, and as a team, the Liberty had 28 assists on their 33 field goals made, contributing to their 52 percent shooting overall.
