CHESTNUT HILL, MASSACHUSETTS — Of course the Irish were going to show out in Boston! As it so happens, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish might be the best women’s basketball team in the country at the moment, so long as one only counts the games actually played in the United States so far this season.
Hannah Hidalgo scored 23 points in her second game back from an ankle injury, leading No. 3 Notre Dame to an 89-63 victory over Boston College inside Conte Forum on Thursday evening. Olivia Miles added 16 points for the Irish as Notre Dame won its 12th straight game and has won each of its first eight conference games for the first time since the 2015-16 team finished a perfect 16-0 in Atlantic Coast Conference play.
Notre Dame has not lost since back-to-back defeats to TCU and Utah in the Cayman Islands Classic over Thanksgiving weekend. Right before that trip, the Fighting Irish defeated then No. 3 USC in Los Angeles, and in the game immediately after coming back from the Caribbean, the Irish defeated then No. 4 Texas in South Bend and, one week later, downed then second-ranked Connecticut, also at home.
Hidalgo struggled out of the gate, making just two of her first eight shots from the field as Boston College ended the quarter with an 18-17 lead, and that despite the Eagles shooting just 6-for-15 from the field in the opening stanza. But Hidalgo found her stride later on in the game, making 5-of-9 from the floor in the second half as the Irish started to pull away. By the end of the game, Hidalgo also had five rebounds, five steals and three assists.
