BALTIMORE — A few months ago, LSU star forward Angel Reese helped the Lady Tigers make championship history. On paper, Wednesday night’s game had much less riding on it than last March and April, but Reese’s homecoming to the city that made her held as much importance as any other contest in her college career, and she showed out in a way marking such an occasion.

Reese, last year’s Most Outstanding Player on LSU’s march to a national championship, scored 26 points in front of a slew of friends and family in Baltimore as the Lady Tigers defeated Coppin State 80-48 inside a sold-out Physical Education Complex Arena on Wednesday evening. According to ESPN Stats & Info, the game marked the first time that a defending women’s DI national champion played on the road at an HBCU, and it so happened that the host city for the occasion, Baltimore, is where Angel grew up — and at a school where members of Angel’s family matriculated.

“I’ve accomplished a lot at LSU and being able to come back here was important,” Reese said. “A lot of people came out tonight, I know some of them were here for Coppin State. Just getting to come to a historically black college was important. My aunt [played] here and my cousin. I got to come back and do a lot for this community and show little girls that this is something that is possible and was very important to me.”

Fellow frontcourt mate Aneesah Morrow produced her seventh straight double-double, with 13 points, 13 rebounds, three blocks and four steals, while Flau’Jae Johnson had 18 points for the Tigers.
