INGLEWOOD, CALIFORNIA — Sure, the Los Angeles Rams have the boy-genius as head coach, led by the Super Bowl-winning quarterback who’s on track to win his first Most Valuable Player Award who’s throwing to two of the best wide receivers in the sport. But that long-held sports axiom that defense wins championships also applies to these Rams, and theirs made the biggest statement of championship intent this season against the biggest threat to their NFC West division crown.
Los Angeles picked off Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold four times, though it still needed a long field goal miss from Jason Myers on the final play of the game as the Rams defeated Seattle 21-19 inside SoFi Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Kamren Kinchens had two of those interceptions for the Rams, both leading to touchdowns on the ensuing drives for Los Angeles, as Matthew Stafford threw for two scores in a game where he barely completed 50 percent of his passes for 130 yards against Seattle’s own staunch defense.
“We’re never going to apologize for being able to find ways to win,” Rams coach Sean McVay said.
The win gives the Rams sole possession of first place in the NFC West at 8-2, one game ahead of the Seahawks. The two squads will square off in Seattle on Thursday, December 18.
