SANTA CLARA, CALIFORNIA — Defense wins champions is the axiom in sports. The 2025 Seattle Seahawks turned that saying into an art on the football field, resulting in the masterpiece that brings the Vince Lombardi Trophy back to the Pacific Northwest.
Seattle’s punishing, ball-hawking defense was the scourge of the National Football League all season long, and the unit came up with six sacks and a game-sealing, team-defining interception return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter as the Seahawks swarmed the New England Patriots 29-13 to win Super Bowl LX inside Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara. Kenneth Walker III completed the defense with 135 rushing yards as Seattle becomes the seventh franchise in league history to win multiple Super Bowl titles. Walker was named Super Bowl LX Most Valuable Player, the first running back to win the award since the Denver Broncos’ Terrell Davis XXXII in the 1997 season.
The No. 1 total defense in the league saved, arguably, their best showing of the season on the biggest stage, recording six sacks and turning over New England three times, the last coming when a Roq Witherspoon got home on a blitz to knock the ball out of Drake Maye’s hand and into the awaiting arms of defensive end Uchenna Nwosu, who returned the pick 45 yards for a touchdown and a 29-7 lead.
The Patriots offense did not cross Seattle’s 43-yard line until the fourth quarter as it was shut out from the scoreboard for the first three periods.
