DALLAS — In the can’t-miss rematch of last season’s Western Conference Finals, Vegas Golden Knights center Jack Eichel stood out, at least temporarily, because of one big miss.

A split second later, Eichel was on target, and Vegas officially picked up where they left off last in the Lone Star State.

Eichel scored the game-winning goal 1:57 into overtime to give the Golden Knights a 2-1 victory over the Dallas Stars inside American Airlines Center on Thanksgiving eve. Michael Amadio also scored for Vegas, who ended their five-game road trip tonight with a 2-2-1 record while snapping a two-game losing streak.

It took Eichel a couple of attempts before officially closing the game out, as he whiffed on a shot attempt up close before regaining control of the puck and beating Stars goalkeeper Jake Oettinger.

“It’s not at all how you draw it up; I fanned a couple times, but I’ll take it,” Eichel said about his eight goal of the season that ended proceedings. “It was good to get the two points. It’s been a long road trip for us. It’s never easy being away for this long, and we knew it was going to be a tough game tonight. It’s always close when we play them.”

Three such one-goal contests also highlighted last season’s conference finals between the squads, a series that the Golden Knights won in six games, including a 6-0 defeat in the deciding Game 6 in Dallas to send Vegas to its second-ever Stanley Cup Final appearance.
