BALTIMORE — There’s making up for lost time, and then there’s what the Baltimore Orioles are doing in the final games of the season inside Oriole Park at Camden Yards this season, packing in season’s worth of thrills and great play into a couple of magical weeks.
Rookie Dylan Beavers drove in the game-winning run for a second straight game after his two-out RBI single in the seventh inning gave the Orioles a 3-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates and completed a three-game sweep of the series on Thursday afternoon. Baltimore has won eight of its last nine games.
Jackson Holliday singled and stole his 16thth base to lead off the seventh against Pittsburgh reliever Colin Holderman (0-2). Gunnar Henderson was walked intentionally with one out and Holderman left after striking out Emmanuel Rivera
Beavers then came up to the plate against Evan Sisk, and on a 3=2 pitch, the rookie hit a single to being home Holliday with the go-ahead run. In his 21 games in the Majors, Beavers is batting .302, and has hit safely in eight of his last 10 games.
Orioles starter Cade Povich allowed two runs on five hits in 5 2/3 innings. Rookie Grant Wolfram pitched a scoreless seventh for the win and Keegan Akin pitched the ninth for his fifth save.
